2013 edition: Biotechnology

  • 52 researchers from 13 research centres and department of the UAB took part.
  • They developed 16 projects based on biology. The themes were very diverse ranging from support software for endoscopic procedures, a sensor for detecting viral infections and a treatment for industrial organic waste.
  • The winning project was My Stone, a kidney stone classifier developed by researchers Francisco Blanco, Montserrat López-Mesas, Manuel Valiente, Joan Serrat and Felipe Lumbreras.
  • Second prize was awarded to Celifast, a biosensor for diagnosing coeliac disease and third prize went to a meat inspection consultancy called Servei de Suport a Escorxadors (SECS) (Abattoire Support Service).
